A Royal Way to Decide

The British pound coin carries centuries of history in its design. Our virtual flipper accurately represents the current £1 coin featuring Queen Elizabeth II's portrait on the heads side and one of four national emblems (English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh leek, or Northern Irish shamrock) on the tails side.

👑 Heads Side

The obverse displays the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark, with the inscription "ELIZABETH II D.G.REG.F.D." meaning "Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith."

🌹 Tails Side

The reverse features a design by David Pearce showing four plants emblematic of the UK's four nations: the English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh leek, and Northern Irish shamrock emerging from a royal coronet.

The New 12-Sided Pound

Since 2017, the Royal Mint introduced a new 12-sided £1 coin with advanced security features to combat counterfeiting. Our digital version replicates this distinctive shape and weight:

Security Features

Like the real coin, our animation shows the latent image that changes between a £ symbol and the number 1

Unique Shape

The 12-sided (dodecagonal) design makes it instantly recognizable, modeled after the historic threepenny bit

Bimetallic Design

Our animation shows the gold-colored outer ring and silver-colored inner section just like the physical coin

Cultural Significance

The British pound coin represents more than just currency - it's a symbol of national identity and history:

🇬🇧 United Kingdom Symbolism

The four floral emblems on the reverse represent the unity of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland under one monarchy.

🏛️ Historical Continuity

British coins have featured monarchs' portraits for over 1,100 years since Anglo-Saxon times, maintaining an unbroken tradition.
